Water Line Repair and Replacement

Leak in the yard? We can help today. Call 770-472-7587.

Your main water line brings clean water from the meter to your house. It is buried, so you rarely think about it until something goes wrong. A leak can waste a lot of water, run up your bill and soften the ground around your home.

Septic Plus finds leaks, repairs broken water lines and replaces old lines with new pipe. We are plumbers who dig every day, so buried lines are right in our wheelhouse.

Signs of a Water Line Leak

  • A wet or soggy spot in the yard that will not dry out

  • A patch of grass that grows faster or greener than the rest

  • Low water pressure in the whole house

  • A water bill that jumps for no reason

  • The sound of running water when everything is turned off

  • Your water meter spins when no one is using water

  • Dirty or rusty water from many faucets

A wet spot can also come from a septic problem. Since we work on both, we can tell which one it is. You will not pay to chase the wrong problem.

How to Check for a Leak

Here is a simple test you can do before you call.

  • Turn off every faucet and anything that uses water

  • Look at your water meter and write down the number

  • Wait an hour without using any water

  • Check the meter again

If the number went up, water is leaking somewhere. Call us and tell us what you found.

What Causes Water Lines to Fail

  • Old pipe that gets brittle with age

  • Tree roots that wrap around and squeeze the line

  • Shifting red clay soil

  • Freezing weather on lines that are not buried deep enough

  • Damage from digging, fence posts or heavy trucks

  • Bad fittings or joints from past repairs

Water Line Repair

If the leak is in one spot, we dig to it and fix just that section. We cut out the bad pipe, put in new pipe and fittings and test for leaks before we fill the hole. We keep the dig as small as we can.

Water Line Replacement

When a line has leaked more than once or the pipe is old and weak, replacing it can save you money and trouble. We lay new pipe from the meter to the house. New pipe gives you better pressure and peace of mind. When the job is done, we fill the trench, haul off the old pipe and leave your yard neat.

Water Line FAQ

Who is responsible for the water line, me or the city? In most places, the city or water authority owns the line up to the meter. The line from the meter to your house is usually the owner's. Call your water provider if you are not sure.

Can a water line leak cause a septic problem? It can. Water from a leak can soak the ground around your drain field and make it work harder.

How do you find a leak that is buried? We look at the signs, test the line and dig carefully where the evidence points.

Will you have to tear up my driveway? Not always. We plan the route to avoid driveways and walkways when we can.

Can you come out the same day? Often, yes. A water line break is an emergency, and we answer 24/7.

From Your Call to the Fix

A real person answers when you call. We ask what you are seeing, like a wet spot, low pressure or a high bill. If water is pouring out, we help you find your main shutoff so you can stop the flow. Then we set a time to come out, often the same day. When we get there, we track down the leak and explain what we found before any digging starts.

Know Where Your Main Shutoff Is

Every homeowner should know where to turn off the water. Most homes have a shutoff valve where the line enters the house, often in a crawl space, basement, garage or near the water heater. There is also a valve at the meter. If a pipe bursts, turning off the water fast can save your floors and walls. If you cannot find your shutoff, ask us on your next visit and we will show you.

Water Lines and Septic Systems Don't Mix

Your water line and your septic lines are both buried in the yard. They should be kept apart. When we repair or replace a water line, we know where septic tanks and drain lines usually run, and we work carefully around them. That keeps your drinking water safe and your septic system in one piece.

New Water Lines for Additions and New Builds

Building a shop, adding a room or putting in a new home? You may need a new water line. We can run new lines from the meter to the building, sized for the water you will use. If you are also putting in a septic system, we can plan both together so the lines stay where they should.

Older Homes and Old Pipe

Some older homes in Commerce, Maysville and Nicholson still have water lines made from pipe that was common decades ago. These lines can crack, rust or wear thin. If your home is older and you have had more than one leak, it may be time to talk about a new line before the next break.

Where We Fix Water Lines

We repair and replace water lines in Commerce, Jefferson, Braselton, Hoschton, Pendergrass, Talmo, Maysville, Nicholson, Arcade and all of Jackson County, plus nearby towns in Banks, Barrow, Hall and Gwinnett counties.
