Lift Station, Grinder Pump and Septic Pump Repair
Septic alarm going off? We answer 24/7. Call 770-472-7587.
Not every home can let gravity do the work. If your drain field sits uphill from your tank, or your house sits lower than the sewer main, a pump has to push the water where it needs to go. When that pump stops, waste stops moving. That is when the alarm starts beeping.
Septic Plus repairs, replaces and installs the pumps that keep these systems running. We work on home pump tanks, grinder pumps and small lift stations for homes and businesses.
Types of Pumps We Work On
-
Effluent pumps: These move the liquid from a pump tank up to your drain field. They are common on hilly lots around Jackson County.
-
Grinder pumps: These grind up waste and push it through a small pipe. They are used when a home sits lower than the sewer main.
-
Sewage ejector pumps: These lift waste from a basement bathroom or a low part of the house.
-
Lift stations: These are larger pump stations for businesses, churches, shops and small groups of homes.
-
Floats, switches and alarm panels: These tell the pump when to turn on and warn you when something is wrong.
What to Do When Your Septic Alarm Goes Off
A beeping alarm means the water in the pump tank is too high. Do not ignore it.
-
Push the silence button on the alarm box, if it has one
-
Stop using water right away. No laundry, dishwasher or long showers.
-
Check that the pump breaker has not tripped
-

Most pump tanks have a little extra room after the alarm goes off. That room fills up fast if you keep using water. Cutting back buys time and helps keep sewage out of your home and yard.
Common Pump Problems
-
The pump runs but no water moves
-
The pump does not turn on at all
-
The breaker keeps tripping
-
A float is stuck or tangled
-
The alarm goes off after heavy rain
-
The pump runs all the time and never shuts off
-
The pump makes loud grinding or humming sounds
Sometimes the fix is simple, like a stuck float or a tripped breaker. Other times the pump is worn out. We test the pump, the floats, the wiring to the panel and the alarm so we know what really failed.
Pump Repair and Replacement
If a part can be fixed, we fix it. If the pump is worn out, we pull it and put in a new one sized for your system. A pump that is too small will not keep up. One that is too big can push water too hard and wear out your field. We match the pump to the job.
We also check the pump tank. If it is full of solids, we pump it out. Solids are hard on pumps and can clog the lines to your field.
New Pump Systems and Lift Stations
We install new pump tanks, grinder pumps and lift stations for new homes, additions and businesses. This is common when a lot is hilly or when a home is tying in to city sewer from below the main. Our family has more than 50 years of septic experience, and we plan each system to fit the land.
Every new pump system we put in has a one-year labor warranty, plus the maker's warranty on the parts.
Keep Your Pump System Healthy
-
Pump your septic tank on schedule so solids do not reach the pump tank
-
Never flush wipes, grease or trash
-
Test your alarm a few times a year
-
Keep the area around the tank lids clear so we can get to them
-
Call when the pump starts acting different, not after it quits
Pump and Alarm FAQ
Why does my septic alarm go off when it rains? Rain water may be getting into the tank through a loose lid or a crack. We can find where it gets in and fix it.
Can I reset the alarm myself? You can silence it, but the problem is still there. Cut back on water and call us so we can find the cause.
How long does a septic pump last? Many pumps last for years, but it depends on use and care. Keeping solids out of the pump tank helps a lot.
Do you work on business lift stations? Yes. We service lift stations for shops, churches and other businesses, as well as home systems.
Do you offer emergency pump service? Yes. We answer 24/7, and we offer same-day and weekend service.
How a Pump Tank System Works
Here is the simple version. Waste leaves your home and goes into the septic tank, where solids settle out. The cleaner water flows into a second tank called a pump tank. When the water in the pump tank rises, a float switch turns the pump on. The pump pushes the water up a pipe to the drain field. When the level drops, the float turns the pump off.
If the pump fails, the water keeps rising. A second float sets off the alarm to warn you. That is why the alarm is your friend. It gives you time to call before the tank overflows.
Grinder Pumps for Homes on Sewer
Some homes are on city sewer but sit lower than the main line in the street. Gravity cannot carry the waste uphill, so a grinder pump does the job. It chops waste into a fine slurry and pumps it through a small pressure line to the main.
Grinder pumps work hard and do not like wipes, grease or trash. When one fails, the drains in the house stop working. We repair and replace grinder pumps and the panels that run them.
Lift Station Service for Businesses
A lift station is a bigger version of a home pump tank. It often has two pumps, so one can take over if the other fails. It also has a control panel, alarms and floats. Lift stations need regular checks to keep them ready. We can pump out the wet well, test both pumps, clean the floats and check the alarm so you do not get surprised.
Power Outages and Your Pump
If the power goes out, your pump stops too. Water from your home still flows into the tank as long as you use it. During an outage, use as little water as you can. When power comes back, the pump should catch up on its own. If the alarm stays on after the power is back, call us.
